Spain - January 2017

Sara,Tony and Carys drove down through France and Spain, to Denia, Spain, for my birthday week but were unfortunate with the weather in that it rained on and off. Nevertheless, the Coast and Country trip was running on the Wednesday so Sara and Tony were able to see some of the area in the dry.

The electric failed in my room completely during the first night, so wasn't available when I needed it, in the wee small hours. After an unsuccessful attempt by Reception to repair the problem, I was offered another room to sleep in for the night ! Allegedly repaired the following morning, it failed again with a flash and a bang when I was later demonstrating how to set the temperature in the bathroom to Sara, and the side fell off the heater ! The electrician said a lead had become detached and a screw had failed. So much for electrical safety.

I was woken up in week three also, with the sound of gushing liquid at about 03.30 a.m., still obvious at 07.45 a.m. I was again offered a room to sleep in.

On the Sunday we attempted Albir, took shelter in the Hotel Kaktus, but decided to come back to Denia due to the high winds and rain forecast.

Sara,Tony and Carys left on the Tuesday of the second week - and I spent my time sending Sara pictures of the sunshine which followed in the second and third weeks, she sent pictures of the frost and snow at home ! I did the usual trips to Benidorm, calling again at the Kaktus, Albir, to discuss the February stay, Moraira market and Xalo (Jalon ) where I bought a CD of guitar music.

The second and third week were taken up with Christmas lunch and New Year's Dinner.

There was an accident on the roundabout by the hotel after the New Year celebrations. You can see the tracks of the car up the centre of the roundabout.

The car went over the roundabout ( 4 feet off the ground ) instead of round it - taking out a heavy cast iron lamp standard in the centre on the way and demolishing a wall on the other side.
