Home and France ..... May - June 2014
Although I returned home on May 6th for an appointment with the eye specialist, the eye op was deferred until June/July, which will be after my visit to France in June.

In the middle of May I had some plastic double glazed doors and windows fitted, which should mean no more painting ! The door locks took some getting used to - but all seems well. The big picture window looks out onto the garden - so I shall have to tidy this up. Still a few little jobs to do - like doorbells or knockers, and curtains need to be fitted. Since the french windows were starting to rot at the base after some forty years, it was about time they were replaced. All in all a good job - if everything lasts another forty years it should see me out ! |

I went over to France on 28th May. Sara had invited me over for a meal with other friends the day I arrived, which was much appreciated. It also gave me the opportunity to catch up with Heather and Kris, who were about to return to the UK.
As usual the grass needed cutting and weeding doing, otherwise the flowers and fruit looked good.
........................................ The red flowers attracted humming bird hawk moths - especially in the afternoon
Mallow ................................................................................... Grapes forming .........................
Peaches ............................................................................................................. Pears ................
Emma and Richard were also soon going back to UK and a pleasant evening was spent at their place ( with Emma's parents )
Much TV was watched, since it was the French Open ( Roland Garros ), followed by Queen's - not to mention the Canadian Grand Prix and the Derby !
| One Thursday
evening I popped up to Domfront to see Chris playing at
Le Barius. The food was good, but I didn't stay long. |

......

Vide greniers ( boot sales ) at Champeon , Ceaucé and Chantrigné were visited, and various shopping trips were made to Mayenne. Meals were had at Chantrigné, Laval - and Fougeres just before return to the UK on 18th June.
On the way back I stopped at St Jean de Daye to report to the Mairie that the Union Flag, used in the 6th June celebrations, was upside down. As were many of the flags on the cheap buntings supplied by the Mairie ! ( I once thus reported to Pont Hebert Mairie, for 2 or 3 years, before eventually supplying them with a postcard showing the correct way up for the flag )
When I returned to the UK, to start grass cutting etc. all over again, I was greeted by a dead fox in the middle of the back lawn .... the smell was awful !
Ah well .... the nights have now started drawing in ....
