FRANCE - September 2008

After one of the wettest days and worst crossings for some time, I arrived in Ambriéres about lunchtime on 2nd September. The weather was not cold, and the temperature indoors was just over 20 degrees C. Indeed, the sky cleared to give a very pleasant sunny evening.

Outside the effect of the weather was easy to see - in my short absence the grass and the weeds had thrived in the warm damp conditions.

I was able to finish off the front porch tiling and build a stone wall to the front garden.

Inside, further work was done on the main room ceiling, ready for a final coat. Before this the main beams will need tidying.

The lighting was improved, and more wall tiling completed, in the downstairs shower room / loo.

Other work involved minor plastering / tradifarge pointing, and wood trims.

Outside the opportunity was taken to generally clean up the garden for the winter, weed treat the top lawn and prune many of the shrubs - especially on the lower level. There were no grapes, despite earlier promise... just shrivelled black pips.

Tony played again at The Red Lion, Desertines ( Google - Tone and the Tonettes ), and there was also time off to socialise with neighbours and friends.

The local fete in Ambriéres was blessed with a balmy evening and the fireworks, down by the river, were better than in previous years.

I left just after lunch on the 26th of September, in sunshine and with a clear blue sky.

The forecast for the weekend ahead was very good.

I arrived back to the usual heap of paperwork through the letter box.

On average it was about 5 degrees C colder, although sunny. This was probably due to being more exposed to the NE wind.
